Workshop on “Trigger”ing Ideas with TRIZ at WeSchool, Mumbai

Ideation presents two key challenges:

1. How to circumvent brain barriers to generate new thoughts?

2. How to reach the best ideas faster?

To overcome these challenges the brain needs some triggers. The workshop introduced Final Year Business Design students at WeSchool, Mumbai to some of the most powerful ideation triggers stitched together by Crafitti as part of its Idea Crafting framework (used by Crafitti to facilitate innovative thinking in live business contexts).

Using the widely used white board marker pen as the subject for ideation, the students quickly made forays into the unknown with Crafitti’s jump-storming technique, a combination of brain-writing and scenario building.

Having made use of some of Edward De Bono’s famous lateral thinking triggers like reversal and random words, the students rolled up their sleeves to enter the realm of TRIZ – The Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ). Soon enough they were wading knee deep (I will not say neck deep because there is still much to discover and apply) into contradictions, ideality and function-based thinking. Ideas were flowing and 3 hours had melted away – signaling the end of a most productive session!
